Nepal's foreign policy is guided by the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, the Panchsheel (Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence), Non-Alignment, international law, and the norms of world peace.

The policy aims to safeguard Nepal's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence; promote its national interest and development agenda; and contribute to regional stability and world peace.

Sovereignty & Integrity

Protecting and preserving Nepal's sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence, and national unity.

Non-Alignment

Maintaining an independent and non-aligned foreign policy free from bloc politics and great power rivalry.

Peaceful Coexistence

Promoting peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and non-interference in the internal affairs of other states.

Multilateralism

Actively participating in multilateral forums, especially the United Nations, to advance global peace and development.

Economic Diplomacy

Leveraging foreign policy to attract investment, promote trade, and support Nepal's development goals.

People-Centred Diplomacy

Protecting the rights and welfare of Nepali citizens living and working abroad.

Constitutional Basis

Article 51 (m) of the Constitution of Nepal 2015 outlines the state's international relations policy, directing Nepal to pursue an independent and non-aligned foreign policy, maintain cordial relations with all countries, promote the United Nations Charter and international law, and work for world peace and disarmament.
